HISTORY

A Tribute to Four Decades of Gallery Genesis

In the realm of Filipino art, few establishments can claim the pioneering status that has significantly influenced the recognition of local artists on both national and international stages.

Founded in 1981 by Araceli ‘Chichi’ Salas, a distinguished art collector, Gallery Genesis has been a prominent space for hosting numerous art exhibitions. However, its primary focus has been providing a platform for emerging artists whom Mrs. Salas identifies as possessing exceptional talent worthy of public exposure and commercial success.

Bridging the Gap

True to its word, Gallery Genesis has played a crucial role in discovering and nurturing new talent in the country, establishing a framework that includes selecting resident artists who receive monthly financial support for up to half a decade. This initiative enables these creatives to concentrate entirely on their artistic endeavors and developments without the burden of financial insecurity.

The Salas couple, Ernie and Chichi, embody the essence of art patronage, actively working to elevate the profile of gifted artists. Numerous artists, including Glenn Bautista, Prudencio ‘Amor’ Lamarroza, Egai Fernandez, and Rodelito ‘Toti Cerda,’ have benefitted from their sustained support, subsequently achieving notable recognition within the art community.

Keeping the Promise

Over the years, Gallery Genesis has continued to be committed to curating collections that transcend mere observation and promote artistic dialogue. Taking great pride in quality art, their prestigious Kulay Sa Tubig Watercolor Competition remains a pivotal national event, setting a benchmark for excellence in a medium often deemed the most challenging due to its demand for precision; it is unique in that participation used to be by invitation only.

Gallery Genesis also spearheaded the practice of issuing certificates of authenticity for pieces sold through the gallery, which has become a standard procedure in the industry— practicing what is vowed,

“For those who appreciate quality,
from those who insist on it.”

Visualizing the Future

In response to evolving digital landscapes and shifts in public engagement, Gallery Genesis has embraced technological advancements to enhance its visibility and accessibility, thus broadening the reach of its artistic initiatives.

As the gallery marks its 45th year, its foundational mission—to promote cultural enrichment and elevate local artists within the Philippine art ecosystem—remains unwavering.

With a rejuvenated team now being led by their daughter, Ms. Patrice Salas, imbued with fresh inspiration, Gallery Genesis is poised to pursue even more ambitious objectives, striving to elevate Philippine art to unprecedented levels of acclaim and appreciation.
