TUBIG
Since its inception in 1983, Kulay sa Tubig has played a pivotal role in elevating watercolor to its rightful place as a respected and celebrated art form. At the time, watercolor was often dismissed as a secondary medium — used mainly for studies or drafts. But the founders of Gallery Genesis saw its true potential and set out to highlight its unique beauty: the luminous transparency, the finesse of every brushstroke, and the fluid, expressive movement of pigment.
At its core, Kulay sa Tubig was created to give unknown and emerging artists a platform — a rare opportunity to be seen, recognized, and celebrated. With a mission to promote genuine Filipino talent from across the country, the competition remains dedicated to discovering and uplifting artists who might otherwise go unnoticed.
Now in its 37th year, Kulay sa Tubig has become one of the most anticipated events in the Philippine art calendar. Each year, thousands of aspiring artists submit their work, hoping to secure a coveted spot. Only a select few make it through the rigorous pre-screening process to become official participants. These chosen artists then compete for the prestigious honor of being named one of the Top 5 Philippine Watercolorists — a title that, for many, represents the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
